The Maneki Neko, or "beckoning cat," is one of Japan’s most iconic symbols of good fortune. Recognizable by its raised paw (often with a gold coin), this cat is commonly seen in homes, restaurants, and businesses. The raised paw is said to be inviting prosperity and good luck.

The raised left paw is believed to attract customers, while a raised right paw brings financial luck and wealth. Some Maneki Neko figures feature both paws raised, symbolizing both good fortune and success.

Origins: The Maneki Neko’s exact origin is unclear, but one popular story tells of a poor temple priest who prayed to the gods for help. One day, a cat at the temple raised its paw as if beckoning a wealthy nobleman to the temple, which brought much-needed donations to the priest. The cat’s gesture has since become a symbol of good luck.
