Houji has an earthy, smoky, and nutty taste that pairs well with caramels. The roasting process removes bitterness, leaving a smooth and aromatic flavor.
Catechins found in houji roasted green tea boosts the body's metabolism, which promotes weight loss and increases your body's calorie use, leading to fat burn. Houjicha roasted green tea is also an excellent tea for promoting good digestion. A standard serving size of one cup of hojicha (250 ml) contains about 7.7 mg of caffeine. As houjicha is low in caffeine, it doesn't cause the anxiety and jitteriness that coffee drinkers experience.
The ideal water temperature for brewing Houjicha is between 80-90°C. Steep the tea for about 1-2 minutes, depending on your preference. If you want a stronger flavor, you can steep it longer, but be careful not to steep it for too long, or it can result in a bitter taste. To brew Houjicha, use 3 grams of tea leaves for every 230ml of water. You can use a tea infuser or a teapot with a strainer to steep the tea.
